When it comes to men’s sex toys, they don’t get much better than prostate toys. Male prostate orgasms can be incredibly intense, whether you’re using prostate massagers for medical purposes or anal play.
The Lovense Edge is the world’s first adjustable prostate vibrator, so naturally I was intrigued to check it out.
The box assures you that “IT WILL HIT YOUR SPOT!”, but does it actually? In this Lovense Edge review, I aim to find out!
What is the Lovense Edge?
The Lovense Edge is a vibrating prostate massager which has a similar shape to many run-of-the-mill vibrating prostate toys. However, the main stem of the toy is supported by a sturdy inner frame which you can bend into the optimum position for your bottom. This way, you can angle the main stem of the toy perfectly so that it hits your prostate perfectly – no more one-size-fits-all prostate toys.
Forums and subreddits for men who like prostate toys often feature posts like this one from guys who are too tall/short/overweight/skinny for toys designed for the “average” male body.
The Edge features powerful dual motors with decent battery lives that are housed in the main stem of the toy (touching your prostate) and the base of the toy (touching your perineum or “taint” area). The motors can be controlled individually, providing both internal and external prostate stimulation. The coating of the toy is 100% medical-grade silicone with a velvety soft feel, and the insertable length is a modest 3.13 inches.
Like most Lovense toys, the Edge can be controlled remotely via Bluetooth (with a 20 feet standing range) or via the internet for long distance partners. You just need to download the Lovense Remote app for free and install it on your smart device. With the app, you (or your partner) can create your own vibration patterns, choose from default patterns, or choose from a database of custom vibrating patterns created by fellow Lovense users. The toy does come with its own in-built settings too, but they’re basic.
My Experience with the Lovense Edge
First of all, let me say that I really appreciate the adjustable stem on this toy. As a tall prostate milking fan, I often struggle to find toys which fit my body, so this was a great find. You have to bend the stem with a fair amount of force, but it does stay put once you find the right position. I’ve tried bending it to both extremes, and you’ve got nearly 90 degrees of adjustable angles to work with, so after a couple of tries, it’s easy to find an angle that works for you.
With that said, I think that the main head of the toy (the part inside your anal canal) is too bulbous and girthy. To be fair, there’s a powerful motor inside the head which obviously takes up a lot of room, but in my opinion, it’s too much. I’m not someone who’s new to anal play, but I found this toy surprisingly difficult to get inside me and take out afterward. However, it does stay in place throughout a session without falling out, so credit where credit’s due.
The skinny optimized neck of this toy allows your anal sphincter to close around it, keeping it in place despite the bulbous head.
Lovense drone on and on about their toys having some of the most powerful vibrating motors in the industry, but I don’t think that’s important for a toy like this. Sure, for the Lovense Hush butt plug or the Lovense Lush 2 vibrator you might want huge rumbling vibrations, but prostate massage is all about subtlety – there’s a reason that Aneros toys aren’t usually motorized. I tried this toy on its most powerful vibration settings and in all honesty, it was just too much. I imagine that it would hurt after a while.
When it comes to prostate massagers, don’t assume that stronger vibrations mean stronger orgasms. Powerful vibrations will just desensitize the area after a while.
With that said, the ability to separately control the vibes on your prostate and on your perineum is really cool. I spent an enjoyable couple of hours playing around with custom vibe patterns on my phone. I soon discovered that I preferred stronger vibes on my perineum and softer vibes on my prostate inside my anal canal. Whatever your preference, the level of customization with the Lovense Edge is remarkable.
If you haven’t used the Lovense Remote app before, it really is something to behold. You can control various Lovense sex toys with this app, whether you’re standing in the same room or you’re teasing your partner via Wi-Fi on the other side of the world. I tried to use the Lovense Edge for discreet public play, but I think vibrating prostate massagers like the Edge are too bulky to carry around in your bum all day and this one isn’t super quiet once you get to the stronger settings.
One of my favorite features in the app is the user-created patterns – it’s very erotic to experience another person’s custom-made prostate milking experience. Some patterns are designed to be relaxing and sensual, while others have names like “TORTURE YOUR BUTTHOLE!” As you can imagine, those ones require bravery, strong willpower, and buckets of lube.
My favorite pattern names I’ve found on the app so far are “Hole breaker” and “DANGER! 10 secs from HELL!” I’m used to 7 minutes in heaven, but 10 seconds in hell sounds fun.
Overall, I think that a hands free prostate orgasm is unlikely with this toy, but it definitely has a lot to offer for men who like vibrating prostate massagers. The flexibility and adjustable angle are a game-changer, as well as the 2 separate motors with endless vibration patterns. The super-strong vibrations seem excessive and the head is too bulbous, but this adjustable toy will definitely fill you up and amplify your regular orgasms.
Pros and Cons of the Lovense Edge
There’s a lot to say about this app-controlled sex toy, but I’ll try to break it down into the main points covered in this review.
Some of these things are down to personal preference, but other things (like the lack of a storage pouch) are universally annoying.
Cleaning and Charging
It’s really easy to clean and charge the Edge. For cleaning, you just need to wash it with warm water and antibacterial soap – that’s about it really! Be sure to really work the soap into the coating of the toy before rinsing it off, otherwise it might develop bad odors or harbor nasty bacteria over time.
Although they’re hypoallergenic and body safe, medical-grade silicone sex toys can cling onto nasty smells and small particles of lube if you don’t wash them often enough. For example, if you use coconut oil as lube for silicone sex toys, it can crystallize as white spots on the surface.
The USB charge cable makes charging the toy up really easy, whether you plug it into your laptop, a wall socket, or a PS4. The port that plugs into the toy looks a bit like a headphone jack, but longer. Don’t be scared to force it into the hole on the Edge – it takes a bit of force to get it in there. You’ll know it’s charging, as the little light on the toy will blink red.
In my experience, a full charge will get you around 90 minutes of continuous play time with the Edge, depending on how strong you like the vibes.
I’m on the fence about this sex toy. Although it’s not the best prostate massage I’ve ever had, the level of innovation and customization is mindblowing. If you know how to use a top prostate massager and you’re already keen on vibrating models, then the Lovense Edge is probably perfect for you. If like myself you prefer a relaxed and chilled-out P-spot massage, you’re probably better off with something else. You do you, boo.
Great article, thank you. Very well written. You find the ‘sweet spot’ between objective, almost medical journalism and familiar expression. I would love to have your advice on the Lush used for men as a prostate stimulator. Best. M
I’ve never thought about using the Lush for prostate stimulation, though I know that a lot of camboys do it. Does it work as a prostate stimulator?
I wish you had a remote control. It would bs so much better to use. When your hands are all gressy…lol
one does want to use his cell.
That is the downside of smartphone control!
I know the Edge is marketed for men…but do you think it could work for women? Such as, the P-spot end inserted for G-spot stimulation while the external part vibrates against the clitoris? So using the Edge similar to a more traditional rabbit toy but more hands-free.
I mean, it might work, but Lovense already has a rabbit vibrator (The Nora 2) so why not just use that for its intended purpose?
I am a gay male. I bought the Edge as recommended by a fellow Chaturbate model. Unfortunately, mine will not stay inserted. I am very disappointed to say the least. Now, I’m not sure if I should spend another $99.00 and try the Edge 2 or try the Lush 2. I really like all of the features of the Edge if only it would stay inside like a good little Edge!!!
Yeah I have problems with prostate toys staying inside in general tbh
