Bondage and Ball Gags – The 8 Best BDSM Gags You Can Buy Online

By: JC Ways

I first became interested in ball gags after watching the infamous “gimp” scene in Pulp Fiction. I was much too young to be watching that film at the time – I was suddenly thrust into a world of BDSM and bondage gear that I knew very little about. You might say that I was pretty fuckin’ far from okay!

Sadly, as someone with what dentists refer to as “funny molars that stick out weird”, it’s difficult to find ball gags that I can wear comfortably… though that hasn’t stopped me from trying!

Although ball gags are the most commonly known type of sex gag, there are actually dozens of styles of bondage gag, including bit gags, bondage hoods, harness gags, ring gags, spider gags, muzzles, panel gags, BDSM masks, dildo gags, deep throat gags, and more. On top of that, there are also different fastening systems, such as Velcro, nylon, and leather buckles.I haven’t got time to write an encyclopedia of bondage gags, but here I’m going to give you 8 of my bondage gag recommendations from some of the cheapest and most reputable online sex stores. I’m also going to introduce sex gags, give you some tips, and help you understand why you’d use a ball gag in the first place!

What Are Ball Gags For?

A ballgag is used to limit someone’s speech and reduce their ability to make loud noises. Ball gags are usually part of a larger bondage or BDSM scene, but they can be used on their own during sex too, especially if your partner moans loudly and you don’t want to wake up the neighbors.Bondage gags will usually be part of a dominant/submissive sexual relationship between 2 people whereby the ball gag wearer is the submissive partner. By having their freedom to speak and moan limited, they give the dominant partner more control and help to set the scene.

You can also get medical gags which are designed to hold someone’s mouth open during surgery. It’s possible that sex gags evolved from these medical tools, just like how prostate massagers and urethral sounds evolved from medical instruments.

Why Use a Ball Gag?

There are many reasons that you might use a ball gag during sex/BDSM, but here are some of the main reasons that bondage fans usually cite:

Humiliation

For some subs (submissive partners), wearing a ball gag is a form of humiliation which they find arousing. For this reason, you can get ball gags with “humiliating” words on them like “whore”, “cumslut”, and “slave”.

Sexual Tension

A gag prevents oral release and limits your freedom to express yourself. This can cause a buildup of sexual tension in other areas of the body, heightening arousal when touched or played with.

Power Play

Ball gags are almost always associated with sub/dom power play scenes, and the idea of having your speech taken away can be very arousing for a lot of subs. For many subs, the gag represents their partner’s dominance over their most basic bodily functions.

Helplessness

Not being able to speak and express your thoughts is understandably quite anxiety-inducing and worrying, but many subs find this feeling of submission and helplessness to be a real turn-on.

Just think – your dom could do whatever they want to you and no one would be able to hear you scream! It’s quite an exhilarating rush.

Keep it Quiet!

If your sub makes too much noise during a session, you could use a ball gag or bondage mask to muffle their moans and stop them from waking the neighbors! This way, you can fuck as hard as you like without causing too much noise.

BDSM Aesthetic

Some people are aroused by the traditional look and aesthetic of bondage scenes, and ball gags are a huge part of the classic BDSM aesthetic. It’s the same principle as finding sportswear or school uniforms attractive – it simply has a “naughty” quality for some people.

Some people are aroused simply by ball gags as an intimate object that is related to sexual activities. In more extreme cases, this can be considered a form of sexual paraphilia, where someone has extreme sexual desires triggered by inanimate objects.

Best Ball Gags and Bondage Gags

Here I’ve compiled 6 of my favorite sex gags I found online. I tried to include a mixture of advanced sex gags and ball gags for beginners, so there’s a little bit of something for everyone!

Fetish and Fantasy Ball Gag for Beginners

Keeping things simple!

Fetish Fantasy ball gags are among the most common ball gags on the market – they’re frequently sold as a simple and basic beginner’s ball gag. Their iconic design makes use of simple nylon straps and a stiff PVC ball available in either red or black.

Fetish and Fantasy Ball Gag for Beginners

Although this gag is designed for beginners, do bear in mind that the ball is fairly large and it isn’t breathable (it doesn’t have holes in it), so maybe look for a breathable gag if that’s going to be an issue for you. Otherwise, this is a great introduction to simple and iconic bondage equipment!

Bettie Page would be proud!

Pros:

  • Adjustable nylon strap, basic design, 1.75-inch PVC ball

Cons:

  • Ball is quite firm

Best Breathable Ball Gag

Small and breathable gag for beginners

If you’re looking for something easier or you’ve got breathing problems at the best of times, then I’d recommend this breathable ball gag from Provocateur Creations. At 1.5 inches in diameter, the PVC ball is nice and small, not forcing your jaw too far open. This ball gag is also breathable, meaning that it has air holes in it which allow you to breathe through your mouth while wearing it.

Best Breathable Ball Gag

If you’ve got a cold or breathing solely through your nose is difficult for you, this is the gag you want to get. It’s also super cheap and comes with high-quality faux leather straps and buckles, giving more of that classic BDSM/fetish aesthetic.

The BDSM aesthetic has had a huge influence on fashion, with Vivienne Westwood, Madonna, and Dita Von Teese all being noted for their association with fetish and BDSM-esque clothing.

Pros:

  • Breathable, small 1.5-inch ball, faux leather straps

Cons:

  • PVC ball is quite firm

Best Bit Gag

For when that sub needs to shut up!

This bit-style gag is reminiscent of the bit gag that horses wear, so it’s very popular among kinky couples who enjoy pony play and animal roleplay. However, unlike a horse’s metal bit, this bit gag from Stockroom is made from soft high-quality silicone. That means that it’s tasteless, odorless, and less painful on your mouth. Sounds good to me!

This bit gag also comes with genuine leather straps (if you’re into that) and nickel-plated hardware for a glossy and expensive-looking feel. There are 2 O-rings which serve as attachment points for other bondage equipment, and it’s easy to wash this bit gag in some soapy warm water when play is over.

Best Bit Gag

Pros:

  • Soft silicone bit, 2 attachment points, easy to clean, real leather straps

Cons:

  • A little pricey

Humiliating Vegan Leather Ball Gag

Let that cumslut know they’re a whore!

If you really want to humiliate your sub, why not gag them with a ball gag that has embarrassing things written on it? Made with vegan leather, the straps of this ball gag can be adorned with words like “Daddy’s Girl”, “Yes Sir” and “Cum Slut”. You can even request custom words for the collar, tailoring your sub’s humiliation. This humiliating ball gag comes with locking and non-locking options in various colors too, so you’ve got plenty of personalization options to peruse!

Humiliating Vegan Leather Ball Gag

Pros:

  • Vegan leather straps, customized writing, locking and non-locking options

Cons:

  • Overall construction could be better

Best Deep Throat Gag

Great for deepthroat training

This deep throat gag set from BON BDSM is great for deepthroat training your sub over time. In case you don’t know, deep throat gags are phallic-shaped gags which protrude into your subs throat, a bit like they’re giving a blowjob. These deep throat gags are penis-like and made from 100% silicone, so they’re odorless and tasteless for the sub. The buckle is also made from genuine leather too.

Best Deep Throat Gag

There are 3 different sizes available – 2.15 inches, 3.15 inches, and 3.75 inches. You can buy them separately or purchase the full set and work your way up over time if you like. This deepthroat gag kit is a great way to train your sub into performing deepthroat blowjobs with ease!

Pros:

  • 3 different sizes, silicone gags, genuine leather straps

Cons:

  • Not great if you don’t like penises

Best Ring Gag

Make them drool!

Ring gags are great for holding your mouth open while also allowing your partner to put their fingers/penis inside your mouth too. This O-ring gag from LoveHoney is a great choice for intermediate and advanced ring gag users because it’s restrictive yet comfortable.

Best Ring Gag

Many ring gags are made from metal, which can hurt your teeth, but this one is made from metal coated with medical-grade silicone, so it’s a lot softer on the teeth while retaining its firmness. This ring gag is also lockable and compatible with metal O-rings if you do want to venture into the world of more extreme BDSM. The straps on this gag are actually made from silicone and can adjust from 14-20.5 inches, so it’ll fit most wearers comfortably. This is a really high-quality versatile O-ring gag, though it might give you some jaw ache after!

Pros:

  • Comfortable on teeth, 1.5-inch wide ring, 100% hypoallergenic

Cons:

  • Not for beginners!

Ball Gag Tips and Safety

Using ball gags is fun, but like all bondage gear, there are risks and safety issues to take into consideration.

Safe Words

You can’t utter a safe word when you’re gagged! Instead, come up with another signal, such as snapping your fingers, uttering a pattern of grunts, or “tapping out” like you’re a wrestler.

It turns out there are websites and YouTube channels which fetishize female WWE wrestlers tapping out as a form of submission.

Consider Size and Shape

It sounds obvious, but the less experienced you are with gagging, the smaller and less adventurous your first gag should be. If you’re new, try a small silicone gag to start out. Also consider a breathable gag if you’re not used to breathing through your nose.

Silicone is Great

You’ll find that a lot of sex gags are made from silicone or they’re coated in silicone. This is because silicone is odorless and flavorless, so it doesn’t cause additional discomfort like funny-tasting plastic can. Silicone is also hypoallergenic, softer, and kinder to your teeth than metal.

Jewelry and Hair

If your partner has a unique hairstyle or jewelry/piercings which could make certain types of sex gags difficult or painful to wear, this needs to be taken into account before you purchase anything. There’s no point in buying a muzzle gag if it tugs on your partner’s septum ring or ear tunnel.

Colds and Blocked Noses

It’s common sense, but a blocked nose is the most common symptom of a cold. If you have a cold and then wear a ball gag which stops you breathing through your mouth, you’re going to find yourself running out of air rather quickly. Don’t make the mistake of blocking BOTH your pathways for air.

Advanced Bondage

Some bondage gags come with large metal rings (commonly known as “O rings”) which are designed as “attachment points” for other bondage furniture you might have lying around. For example, you could attach one of these sex gags to a St. Andrew’s Cross, a stockade, a nipple chain… whatever your heart desires! Our BDSM furniture guide should give you some fun ideas.

Ball Gag Bottom Line

I hope you enjoyed our guide to the best ball gags and open mouth gags on the internet! Whatever kind of sex gag you find to be a turn-on, hopefully this article has given you some ideas to try out next time the lights get low in the boudoir. As always with extreme BDSM play, remember to stay safe, set your boundaries, and enjoy the ride!
